Fix It Up

Voice hushed and subdued
like soft crackles from a kicked space heater.
It’s blowing a little less fierce.
It’s still intact, just scratched up.
She thinks about bringing
it to a mechanic,
or some type of specialist in the field
of 2-foot-high, quirky, warm-air producers.
Lingering hopes that with
a little dusting off and tweaking
it’ll be back, strong as ever,
in no time. Reality worries, and reminds
her that the last brawl was too fierce,
unplugged it from the wall, cord
wrapped around
wrist and all.

Aireeka Laudert ventured out of the snowy mountains of Valdez, Alaska, to become reacquainted with Washington and her extended family. Her passions include writing, theatre, singing, painting, and photography. She’s going back up north to finish her degree, with an emphasis on creative writing, theatre, and teaching.
