About the Chemical Dependency Studies Program

The CDS program at WVC prepares students to begin their internship to become credentialed as a Chemical Dependency Professional in the state of Washington.  Addiction to alcohol and other drugs is a critical issue in our society, and Washington State has been experiencing a shortage of trained counselors.  Chemical Dependency Counselors find employment in inpatient facilities, outpatient agencies, jails or prisons, probation departments, corrections departments and social services agencies.

This program is a fall start, 2 year program that meets the state education requirements for CD counselors and provides comprehensive education in topics such as pharmacology, cultural diversity, counseling theory and techniques, group counseling and adolescent counseling, just to name a few.
